Bernette 46
 

I just saw a sale for the Bernette 46 - $ 150.00 during a 4 day sale in Dec. That is a cute little machine - I love the retro look - I am curious if anyone has one of these machines and if they like it. I have never owned any Bernina machines - so I have no experience with the brand. I am interested in this particular machine for a backup or travel machine.

I don't know about nowadays, but years ago when I worked at a sewing machine dealership that sold Bernina's, the Bernette was not a good machine. I wouldn't buy one, even for a backup or travel machine. A Brother or Janome Jem would likely be considerably better, IMO.

I read once that the Bernette machines are made by Janome, but don't know that for sure. I do know that they are not made by Bernina, just sold by them. Their sergers are very good, but the machines are very "plastic" to me.
I guess you could try sewing on it and see what you think.

My fieend had one, it was junk, traaded it in on a Janome
