Bernina 700 series
 

Can anyone tell me the difference between the Bernina 770QE, 765 SE and 740? Also what cabinet is everyone using who has a 700 series machine? I have the Horn of America Quilter's Dream 3280 but on the Horn website it says this may not be compatible with the 700 series machine due to the increased height of the machine. Does anyone have a 700 series in the 3280 cabinet and if so, are there any problems with it? Or are you just sewing with the 700 series machine on a table?

I have the 770QE. I love it. The 765SE is same machine. Just the special edition in Rose Gold. It is so beautiful!!
i don't know about the 740 but QuiltE is right. Go to Bernina site. Products. You can choose to compare and select the models you want. Learning more about my machine and loving it more and more. If you get one, TAKE THE CLASSES. You learn so much about your particular machine plus I have made 3 new quilting friends!!!!!

Hi - I have a 765 in a Horn Perflextion cabinet. The 765 is the same machine as the 770. The 765 was a promotion, special edition that Bernina had where the machine has a rose colored front and came with your choice of the Bernina 330 sewing machine, an embroidery module or a quilters package with BSR. I think the 770 comes with the BSR and quilting/patchwork feet. That is the only difference between the 765 and 770. I'm sorry I don't know about the 740.

I have the machine in a horn Perfexion cabinet that is the same specs as the Horn 3280 and have had no problems with it. The Perfexion cabinets were a knock off of the Horn cabinets, but made by Horn. I bought it at Sew Vac Direct, but I do't think they make them anymore. Anyway, in the photos it looks exactly like the 3280 and the specs are the same. The lift is not electric, its manual, but there is no problem with the height or opening (which is 12 1/2"' X 24")

I have the 770 also and love it. I have it in my Horn Quilters Dream 3180, but it is not a perfect fit, however it works. You just can't lower it all the way to put the cover on, but I never do that anyway. Also the lift is a bit light, so when I embroider, I move the machine to the left so the left set of feet actually sit on the cabinet and not one the platform; then I don't have to worry about the module losing connection with the machine, which has happened to me in the past.
The 740 is not embroidery capable. Did you know there was a 720 available also? It has embroidery capabilities but is a 5.5mm feed dog machine instead of the 9mm.

I have been on the fence about purchasing the 770 QE. I have a Janome 6600 and an 8900. I was trying to sell the 8900 (new with about 8 hours of sewing) because we never connected. Is Bernina worth the extra money?

Everyone has their favorite machine brand, but I am so happy that I switched to Bernina. I have had both the machines you mention (Janome 6600 and 8900). I have also had upper end Pfaff, Viking and a Babylock Crescendo and several Juki's. In my opinion, YES, Bernina is worth the extra money. While the other machines were all good, lots of features and all sew well (I never had any problems with any of them), the Bernina just feels better. It's hard to explain. If you are a Bernina person, you will feel it when you sit down to sew on one.
