Bernina 780 and Emblibrary Designs
 

Is there any reason Emblibrary designs cannot be used with a Bernina 780? I have been told I should stick with Bernina designs only. Help, I am a novice with Embroidary.

Hmm, did your bernina dealer tell you this? When I bought my first Viking machine with an embroidery module, my dealer told me to only use Viking embroidery files, which were much more expensive and only available at the dealer's store. Definitely sounds like a Bernina myth. Not a good dealer at all. The only thing you have to watch for with Emblibrary designs is that the colors will look weird when you transfer them to your machine. Ignore the colors and follow the color sheet that you can download with your designs.

Was the dealer talking about the file extension perhaps. For the Bernina it would be ART. I have a Bernina embroidery machine and I download designs from several different websites and they sew out really well. Not sure if this is what you're talking about. Have fun with your machine.

Ditto. I download designs from http://www.embroiderydesigns.com/?gclid= all the time and have no problems.

That doesn't sound right, most sites contain all file formats to fit different peoples needs. They obviously don't know what they are talking about or want you to spend more money with them

I agree with kjdavis4 and CHOOSE to think that the dealer was merely talking about the format of the files that the machine will read. There are many file conversion programs that convert formats really well now - including free ones - so that information is a little outdated. When purchasing it's always best to purchase in the .ART (dot art) format so that your machine can read the programs, although embroidery library lets you download any format once you've purchased which is really handy if you have 2 different brands of machine.

The other thing to watch is that the dimensions of the design will fit your hoop size. There's no point buying a 6x10 design if you only have a 5x7 or 4x4 inch hoop, unless you have software to split the design into different parts.

As long as you download the right format you can use any designs you want. They probably said that to get you to buy thiers and most machine companies (mine included) charge alot for thier designs. I have top of line machine but go everywhere to get designs and even though my machine will recognize most design formats I try to stay with the three that are for my company.
