The price the Bernina dealer is giving me is $6299, and I've called around everywhere looking for better pricing with no luck. Apparently that's the lowest Bernina will let them sell at. I did hear about the financing special on Saturday from a dealer who is selling it at $6499, but that may be why the price is higher....I used to sell jewelry and I know the finance company charged some crazy number like 13% of the sale price. Also, I've heard that when there is a "special" in which there is a quilting frame, or rolling carrying bag, etc, included, the minimum price is higher. The Bernina company sure has it all figured out, don't they? I tend to be a "wheeler and dealer", so it just kills me to not get a "great deal". In this case, the great deal is my unexpected good fortune and I am infinately grateful.

As a diehard Bernina girl, here's my 2 cents... buy the 820 and don't look back, you'll love this machine! Then, at the same dealer, trade your 6600 in on a Bernina 430. You will have two killer machines, one 9mm, one 5.5mm, and you can share many feet and accessories. Not all, but many.
I think it's much more economical to stick with one brand, and you simply must have a back up machine! |
I too believe this was meant to be - buy the machine you want. I personally like Janomes better than Bernina but do understand about the dream machine and say go for it! If your dealer won't take the 6600 as a trade in, it also must be for a reason! Keep them both. As someone stated, annual servicing can be a real pain if you don't have a backup.

If you bought your Janome from a dealer I bet he would give you a good trade on a Horizon. It has the longer quilt plate. Or if it is a dealer for several brands of machines such as Janome and Bernina, then you could get the Bernina.
Just think of the money left for fabric. |

Buy it! Keep the Janome for now, you will be surprised how nice it is to run two machines. And that will make a very nice remembrance from your aunt.

I just don't think they come any better than Bernina's. I say RUN now and get it while you can. I don't think you'll ever regret doing so.

I have the Bernina 830 and love it! I treasure it. Love every part of it! GO FOR THE 820. I promise you that it will be the best positive decision that you have ever made.
