Got my regular quilting mag and spied the Bernina 820 in there....oooh cant stop drooling as would be a dream machine with its large throat space etc..cant really justify buying it though..but maybe one day... so would like to hear from anyone that has one or has tried one...then maybe i can justify buying one!!

I took a workshop at a Bernina dealer and got to use the new 820. It was super nice. Everything is automatic, push a button and the bobbin come out automatically, just take the bobbin out and replace, push a button and it goes back in and sets itself perfectly. The bobbin is about triple a regular bobbin size! So many buttons though! I set it to machine quilt a 12" design and just sat back and watched. The only thing I didn't like was it had high vibration. The machine was in the Bernina cabinet that comes with the machine and mounted perfectly. I thought the high vibration was annoying for such an expensive machine. I would have to think a lot before I bought one, I really think it's overkill for a sewing machine. The price at the dealer was over $10,000. The choice of sewing cabinet or machine quilting frame comes with the machine.

thankyou for your thoughts..you are right, it is a lot to spend and more than I would want to spend on a machine. The vibration would annoy me..maybe too many bells and whistles..I dont know..i just want a reliable, tough machine with a large throat space with a little bell and a few whistles!! ie needle up/down, thread cutter on the side and to be able to do quilting stuff. I dont want the embroidery part as already have a Bernina Artiste 180e..is there such a machine?? i was thinking the Janome 6600 (I think that was the model no) prior to spying Bernina 820..

I have the 830...which is the same as the 820 EXCEPT it does embroidery too. I love it....dont have vibration you are talking about.

Bernina has the older model 830. It's confusing why they gave the new machine the same model number.

You will not go wrong with the Janome 6600. I bought the first one our dealer sold several years ago. Love it every day and it has a big throat to quilt through.

I have the Brother 1500ps. It's an older model but it has a large throat plate, needle up/down, auto thread cutter, knee lift, pin feed, and will sew on table top or in quilt frame. It looks just like the Juki. They are very reasonable priced about 1/3 of the original price.

I have the 820 and love it. I think BellaBoo is talking about the 830. The 820 doesn't do the embroidery, and costs well under $10,000. I don't have any problems with mine...absolutely no vibration at all. This is my dream machine and to me worth every penny we spent on it! I went from sewing and NEVER completing a project because my "other" machine was frustrating to sewing every day! In case anyone is wondering, I do NOT regret going with the 820 instead of the 830 either...but I am not inot embroidery either :)

I'm confused. The Brand New Bernina is model #820 and #830, called the 8 Series. The machines start at $10,000. At least at this Bernina dealer I went to. The older models are also 820 and 830. The new models are super large machines.
The two Bernina 830 Models
