I just purchased the Bernina 830 embroidery machine (it is not even out of the box yet) and am in question as to whether I need to purchase the specific Bernina USB memory stick with it for design transfer? Can anyone help me. My theory is that any well made USB will work, but of course, I have been wrong a few times before. Can any Bernina Queen out there advise me on this?

Welcome to the board from Southern California. I don't know about the new 830's but I have a 630 and can use a good quality (scan disk) memory stick with my machine so you could probably give it a try. Congrats on your new machine. I hear it can do practically everything except cook dinner.

Thanks for the reply.
In talking with the dealer I purchased the machine from, of course you must have the Bernina brand or it will void out the warranty, but in being a geeky sort of person I felt as thought a good quality stick would work.

Congrats on having the 830. It sounds like a wonder machine!!

I have the Bernina 730 and my dealer "confided" in me that some generic USB sticks will work. He uses and recommends the 'Geek Squad" brand from BEST BUY stores. There are probably many that work, but would be a trial and error process to know which ones.

Gaylene, this is a myth. No where in any warranty info. does it state using a different USB stick will void it. I think people who just aren't computer literate start these internet rumors. Yes, many USB sticks will work, they just have to be 2 GB or less. Folks at my dealership use other sticks...if it voided the warranty, they'd not be using them. :>

I filled up my Bernina memory stick & I'm using another one that I bought at Staples no problem.

Yup, I got mine at Staples too. There are lots of brands out there that do the trick:>
