I am going to look at a Bernina 930 in the cabinet Wednesday after work. The price is right. It was bought new, do not know the year yet, she was going to make all of her own clothes but that never happened. I was told that it has very little use on it. I have read everything on the QB about the 930. My DD swears by the Bernina. I have a new Phaff Smarter 1100, a Bernina 801 Sport some Viking machines and others so I don't NEED this machine but as I said the price is right. Any thoughts?

The Bernina 930 is one of the best & most sought after none computer machines Bernina made. I have one. Bought it new in 1983. The 930 is a workhorse machine. The only part I ever had to have replaced was the feed dogs. I used my machine to sew heavy fabrics & wore the teeth off the feed dogs. This machine will sew any fabric, including saddle leather. It's an awesome machine. When I bought mine Bernina was giving a free sewing cabinet (with knee lift (free hands sewing foot lift) the machine. I still have mine set up in that cabinet.

Make sure the electric cord is there & works. Also the foot pedal. Some had heal down needle drop. Have the seller plug the machine in & do a test sew. If the owners manual is lost you can download it off Bernina's site. Mine also came with a accessories box & several feet. The box has a lift up lid. There should also be a hard plastic carrying case the machine came it as well. Knee lift leaver should be with the cabinet.

If all is well with it and the price is right, GET IT! I bought one in great condition and with many accessories etc from a fellow QB-er, and it's fabulous. Solid, precise, powerful. It is heavy, though. I have a lot if machines, but the 930 is a treasure. You could always re-sell if it doesn't thrill you.

RUN, don't walk...get this gem...
Mom has been using her's, non stop since she got it new in the 80's...Only a couple of very minor repairs.

I bought the 930 new with a very large cabinet, in the early 1980's. Have Bernina 1130 in the cabinet now. The 930 rests, in it's case, in the closet now incase of a sewing emergency. There is no way that I would part with either one! I say, buy it. Very hard to find used Berninas They sew and sew and sew!.

Omigosh, go get it now, before she changes her mind!!! I love mine.

Buzzy Bee 09-20-2011 11:33 AM

what is the biggest difference in the 930 and the 830 ??
I have been looking at a 830 at a repair shop and he says its the last model they made using all metal parts...he is asking $900 for it...is that a good price or not....I m not familular with bernina....good luck to you !!!

Don't know what she's asking but sounds good. The feet alone for my Bernina are $40-$50 dolars. As long as everything is working, I say go for it.
