Bernina BSR Problem
I am trying to practice FMQ using this feature and On BSR1 or Bsr2 , it does not seem to be regulating the stitch. The bsr blinks and the red light is on. Is there any one who has had this trouble?

The BSR is only working when the red light is shining on the fabric. It will help regulate your stitches but it isn't perfect. If the BSR is on and working, you should see a little pixelated man running on the screen.

Tartan, The man was running the last practice so I guess it is working but I still have some long and some shorter stitches. Thank you for the help. Can you tell me what the difference between 1 and 2? I have read the book several times on this and I must be dense.

I prefer sewing in BSR1 because it stops when I take my foot off the pedal. In BSR2 it keeps sewing if the quilt is moved. BSR2 almost gave me a heart attack once when I broke a needle. I am used to moving my work out of the way to change a needle and the broken needle punched through my sandwich several times before I realized what was happening.
Some people love BSR2 but not me. I guess I am too set in my ways. BSR2 seems to give me one large stitch also between stopping and starting again. |
I love the BSR2. Have never used 1...The only time I get those big stitches is when I move the fabric too fast.

Even with the BSR it does take some practice and some getting used to!!

Well, I did practice with the BSR today but my samples look like a first grade pictures. I stayed home from Quilting quild today and said I WILL do this. I will keep trying. Thanks for all your help. I will have to do more to see if I like #1 or #2 the best. My sewing room is a mess from all this. Tomorrow is another day.

The red light has to be on. BSR 1 is when the needle is always going. BSR 2 , the needle only moves when the fabric moves. I prefer BSR 2. Keep practicing. I love my BSR and don't think I can FM without it, as I am so used to it.

I use both BSR 1and 2. To be honest you still have to think about how you move the fabric and it's speedetc. It is not the perfect answer to quilting sorry you still have to act as if quilting without. Once you have used it you will not want to go back to the other way. I learnt to use before I bought the machine. So at classes used the brs at home was normal free motion so know just seem to go. Even high speed juki works. Just relax and enjoy.

It could be that your long stitches are forming because you're moving the fabric too fast and the sewing machine's motor cannot keep up. The Bernina has an alarm that will sound when this happens, but that alarm can be silenced. If you're not hearing the alarm occasionally, check your manual to see how to turn it back on. I found that I needed the alarm to remind me to slow down.
