Bernina BSR

For those of you who have the Bernina with a BSR, do you use 1 or 2, and why? Thanks.

I use #1 because I like the machine to stop when I take my foot off the foot control. Too many years sewing to drop that habit. I tried #2 where the machine sews only when the sandwich is moving but scared myself half to death with that one. I broke a needle and went to move my quilt to put in a new needle. The broken needle punched through the quilt several times before I realized what was happening.

I typically use 2 so I don't have to keep my foot on the control all the time. I can concentrate on the design and not worry about using the foot control. I think it's a preference thing for most people.

I use #1 for the same reason as Tartan. It is second nature to position the quilt for the next "round" of quilting, press my foot on the pedal, and start moving the fabric. #2 results in unwanted stitches when I use that.

I always use #1. It feels more like regular sewing and I can relax more. Well, a little bit anyway. I still have to remember to breathe.

....... and what you get used to.

Try both and see what features you like from each and decide what works best for you!

I have been pretty much only using #1 .... that being said, I know I have not given #2 a fair chance!

I've only used #2 so far and it worked well but I'm not sure I like using it.....I kept forgetting that if I moved my hands the machine would stitch even when I didn't want it to. My next project will try using #1. I watched a lady at our last retreat use #1 on several projects she brought with her to quilt and things seemed to go more smoothly for her, especially when there are distractions in the room!

I'm fairly inexperienced since I've only had mine a short while... but when the Bernina folks were explaining to me, they suggested starting with 1 since that is what most of us are accustomed to... then with more experience, try to use the 2 method... At first I thought I would never use 2, but I can see that, at least for me, when I'm more accomplished at FMQ with the BSR, I'll probably enjoy the 2nd "gear"...
I think you will really enjoy the BSR!!! I do!!!!

I always use 2 for the same reason.

I always use 2. I do not have the foot control attached. I use the start/stop button. I like the control that 2 gives, as it stops when you stop moving the fabric.
