Bernina leather rolling foot #55

Has anyone ever used this foot for free motion quilting. My local quilt shop has a video posted showing this foot for free motion quilting. It look easy. Your stitches are even since it's like a walking foot.

I have had this recommended, but have yet to purchase that foot for my Bernina 440. I'd be interested in what others might have to say before I go spend the $$.

Hmmmm, is the roller a ball or cylinders that roll? If it is cylinders I can see it rolling frontwards and backwards but it wouldn't be able to go sideways. That is the same problem that I have with my walking foot when quilting a quilt. It is hard to maneuver a quilt through the harp being only able to go in one direction. Now if the rolling foot has a round roller that lets you stitch in any direction? I could see that working for FMQ. You will have to try it out and give us an update.

Libby Lehman demonstrated this on "Quilting Arts" show. I do plan to check on it next time I go to my Bernina shop. (100 miles away)

I just googled this foot to see what it looks like and I found a YOU TUBE video on it. It does look like it can be used for free motion quilting. Its not a ball roller on the bottom. It kind of looks like a tilted pie dish with the rim of the dish touching the fabric. Now to find out if I missed the semi annual Bernina sale!

Mama4Dylan and FabricHound .... now that you have us all intrigued, would you both please be so kind as to provide the links you have each found, so that we can all check it out and learn more!

Please? and Thank You! :)

My shop heavily pushes this foot. It isn't really free motion, but you can do a lot of curves and such (doing straight line shapes like triangles would be really tough). It's a good one for applique round shapes, and it does a nice job of echo quilting. We use it ALL the time in classes. It does give even stitches because it is feed-dogs up, not true free motion.

For me- I've never wanted to buy it. It is a very expensive foot, and kind of more a novelty. You can do a lot more with a darning foot and just do actual free motion quilting. If you want even stitches, practice.

Here's a video for those wanting to see it in action- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfHV...DE59CCCEE8C513

Thanks for the video Skittl1321! It does look handy for quilting in all directions but only if the sandwich is easy to rotate through the harp. I would think it would work well if you were doing Quilt As You Go or other smallish sandwiches?

I am thinking of buying a Bernina just for this foot! Am I really crazy? I am so bad at fmq!

This looks like it would be good for sewing around appliqued shapes and doing echo quilting. I'm going to have to go see how much it costs.
