I still use the older feet. I can find them at our local sewing machine/quilting store. However, the older feet are way more expensive than the newer feet. If you have a freecycle in your area you can put a note to find the feet. Otherwise, I would also suggest Craig's List.

Do not buy feet from EBay , Amazon, or any other online seller, including Bernina. I have 3 sets of walking feet, bought, you guessed it, including Bernina. None fit or work properly on my Old Style Bernina. Finally did an online search for the nearest Bernina dealer, for me a 45 minute drive. Took the machine with me and they let me try the feet, and I bought them. A little expensive, but in long run it will be worth it Find your nearest Bernina dealer, if the drive is to far, call them, maybe they have just what you need.

I thought I read that the factory that made parts for the older Berninas burned down and they were not being made now. I have an 830 Record that dates to 1972, but I haven't tried to buy anything for it for several years. My kids gave me the walking foot for Christmas one year, probably more than 10 years ago. I just noticed by looking on Sewing Parts Online, that the feet that work with the old 830 don't work with the 730, which I did not realize until now.

I have bought many parts for old machines from Sewing Parts Online and have had excellent success with compatibility. If they sell you something that didn't fit when they said it would, you could return it, I assume. Each part has a list of the brands and models that are compatible, so it's easy to verify before you buy.

Another option might possibly be a shank adapter that would allow you to attach low shank feet. A Bernina dealer, if they don't have the right walking foot, might have the shank adapter that would fit your machine, and they should know whether it would work with a low shank walking foot. I'd have them demonstrate this on your machine before you buy it because walking feet have bulky parts that might collide with an adapter. None of that would fit in with your quest to get the genuine parts, but if they're no longer being made, it might be the solution for making the machine do what you need it to do.

Yes, something happened to the factory in Switzerland. I thought I heard it was an avalanche that destroyed the basement. But I could be wrong. What makes the Bernina feet unique is the way they attach to the cone. There is no adapter for low shank or high shank. It is what I refer to as one toe or two toes. The old style has two smaller pieces of metal on the front of the foot that attaches to the cone. The newer feet have one wider piece of metal in the front of the foot where it attaches to the cone. The style you want for the older machine is two toe. Also there is a difference in the color of the box. I think the old style box is red where the current models use the white box. (one toe) Call a Bernina Dealer near you. The Bernina dealer I worked for carried both styles in the store. We also carried both styles of walking feet. As far as the number is concerned, the number is the same for both styles. It got rather confusing when someone called for a foot and I needed to know which machine they had so I could get them the correct foot.

Please type in "Bernina usa", then go to accessories, and at the bottom of that page there is "Bernina Support", type in your feet questions and your machine 730 and the year of the machine, and they are really good at helping you locate what you need.

I had a Bernina 850 that was damaged in a flood. I kept the feet, as l figured they might be useful to someone. After asking many friends & auquaintences, couldn't find a home for them...so l gave them to my repair guy for parts. So ask your service shop to see it they keep salvaged parts. Old time , multi make repair shops best. Good luck.

I appreciate all the good information you shared with me. We have a good Bernina dealer in Wenatchee I have dealt with for years as they also carry Baby-Lock which is what we use for 4H sewing.

Fortunately I have a shank adapter. I just ordered from Sewing Parts Online, I used to purchase from them when I was into vintage Singers. Thank you for taking the time to respond to my questions. Libber
