My lOcal craigslist has a bernina frame for $600. Has been listed for months! I am looking for a grace/gracie quilting frame, but the bernina is in my price range. There may be a grace about 3 hours away, a tough drive with my toddler in the car.

Is it any good? Opinions?

I think they retail for about $2000.00? I have seen one with a Bernina machine on it and it looks very good. The frame is sold separately so you will need a machine that would fit into the trolley? If you are going to put a Bernina machine on it, it will fit. The machine locks between stopper blocks of a certain size? How long are the roll up rails? They come with 6 - 10 foot ones? The quilting frame itself is very nice. Much better in my opinion than a wood one. The only drawback to buying one myself, is that my Bernina only has about a 9 inch harp. By the time you roll the quilt a couple of times, you only have about 5 inches of quilting space.

Get what you want even if it is a tough drive. Put on some toddler music and sing as you drive.

I have a viking sapphire but may need another large-throat machine for use with a frame, so i dont have to switch back and forth. My machine budget (if i have one, lol) is $1000 or less....

I have not used either frame, so i am not really sure. I will be at a quilt event in a couple of weeks and may see one there. It looks lime grace makes the bernina frame, to further complicate things.

The Bernina frame is made by the Grace Company, if I'm not mistaken. It currently comes with the cloth leaders and side bungee clamps and is height adjustable. It retails for over $2000. It can be used with machines other than Bernina. It can only be set up at 5' and 10'-nothing in between. The ad might be a scam, so be cautious. But the frame was included with machine purchase in special promos, so it's not an impossible price. HTH

Hire a nice babysitter for the day and drive forth!

Like Maia said, it's made by Grace. Just know that the first released frames have now been upgraded. I don't know the specifics as I don't own one. But I remember there were a couple of issues with the frames. There's an 830 list on yahoo that you could check out and ask.

We still have an original style frame in our shop...have had no issues with it. Hooked up the Quilt motion to it recently works great! All other facts I read by other posters were correct. Made by Grace, height adjustable, fits any machine. Its a good buy. Especially if it's the new style!

I have a Bernina frame. Yes, it is made by Grace. I paid $2000 for mine about 4 years ago. My Bernina 820, 440, Juki and Janome fit the carriage.
I don't think you can use a Viking with this frame but I'm not sure. The frame is quite heavy (sturdy) and takes up quite a bit of room.
