Bernina Tension Problem
While quilting, I can't get the tension correct. No matter how I change the tension, the bottom thread floats across the underside of the quilt. I have a Bernina 730.

Are you adjusting BOTH your top and bobbin tension?? Is your presser foot down?

Noooooo!!!!!! I'm considering buying this model because of the very same issues with my Pfaff QE 4..... I'll be watching this post like a hawk

When this happens to me, it's because the bobbin thread is not in the notch in the bobbin, so no tension at all on the bobbin thread. Please post when you find the solution. I am keeping a document on machine problems and found solutions.
I think there two older models of 730 and a new one? |
Rethread the bobbin, rethread the top thread, reset the tensions to factory settings, change thread to another brand/type, put in a new needle, clean out the bobbin race.

I have had trouble with the tension while FMQ on my Bernina. Things I have tried: l loosen top tension to about 3.5, on my 430 I pulled the thread through the "little metal thing" next to my spool. I also put the thread through the hole that is on the hook thing that is on the bobbin case that is used for embroidary. All of those things helped, however the my 820 is so different, that the only thing I needed to do was take the tension to 3.5. I am not familiar with the 700 series. My advise is to try the top tension first, and see if that helps.

Definitely check your bobbin to see if it is inserted correctly. Then check the tension on your bobbin/bobbin case.

I have an 830, so I understand perfectly. I have learned to use the same thread on top and bottom because I can't get it right either. If someone comes up with an answer I would love to see it. I have tried and tried and can't get it right!!!!
