bernina vs phaff new question
thankyou for the replys to my question on both of these machines. I am leaning towards the bernina 440qu, but can anyone tell me the room right of the needle to the machine body, I believe it is called the throat body.
I still look forward to further comments on both of the machines. thanks again |
I have a 440 and am using it right now to put binding on a quilt I'm making for one of my sons. I measure about 7 3/4" from needle to body.

Both of what machines? All you're asking about here is the 440 ???

The throat on a 440 will allow you to quilt on a frame, but your quilting space will be limited to approx. 5" (I know, I am currently quilting on my 440 and Bernina quilt frame). One thing you might want to consider is that Bernina has discontinued manufacture of the 440. They will still provide parts for repair for several years.
Go talk to your two friends and see who can offer you the best deal for the price you want to pay. |
I have a Pfaff Creative 4.0 the troat is 9.5 inches. I believe the grand quilter also from Pfaff has even a bigger troat. Hope this helps.

I have a Pfaff expression 2.0 and it has a 9.5 inch throat. I love it. I take it everywhere, quilt classes, retreats, and to my sewing group. The accessories are not as expensive as the Bernina, and has a built in IDT {walking foot}.
