I have a Bernina 930 sewing machine. At a quilting class yesterday, I had my first introduction to a walking foot. The instructor said that the Bernina walking foot is great, but that a universal walking foot will work as well.
Does anyone have a suggestion on which might be better or where I might find one at a reasonable price? |
Have you checked Ebay?? I bought a darning foot for FMQ for my Bernina for 20.00

I have a Bernina walking foot; got it at the same store I bought my machine. It is great for SITD....made it much less frustrating for me. I would recommend it. It was expensive, though. Ebay sounds like a good idea. Good luck.

Buy the one specific for youe machine even if it costs more.
Not all generic feet work. This is based on class experience. |
I am not sure what she meant by an Universal foot. Bernina will not accept feet that fit any other machine. Even older Bernina feet are different than the newer ones. What I would call a universal foot may be a low shank, and it doesn't fit Bernina. I would be very interested to know if anyone has a cheaper foot that fit my Barbie.

My walking foot came with the package deal for my Bernina but the dealer wanted lots for the the extra feet I wanted. Went to ebay for additional feet at more reasonable price. I would agree to get a Bernina foot that matches you machine. I use my WF for sewing on the binding also.

I had a generic ruffle foot that I wanted to use on my 440 and it works beautifully with the adapter! I think there are two, #75 and #77, one is slightly longer than the other.

Some walking feet don't have the teeth on the bottom so be careful with the universal ones.....don't be sorry get a bernina foot..

Bernina walking feet are expensive ($130-$160) so I bought an Alphasew walking foot made for Berninas at $65. After several months of use, a couple of the prongs where it attaches broke. The company gave me a new one at half price ($33). Used it for a while and it broke in the same place as the original. I then got out my adapter shank and tried an universal short shank foot ($30). It fit somewhat, but never seemed really tight and secure, would shift a little and the wiggling made it break too. By now, I had spent almost as much as buying a proper Bernina foot and still didn't have one that worked. At this point, another Guild member was trading in her Bernina for a Babylock and offered me her Bernina walking foot (the proper one!) for $50. My advice, spend the $ and buy the proper foot and save yourself a lot of frustration.

The Bernina walking foot is wonderful, beautifully made and will last for years. It's worth it!

check with www.chlotide.com....I know I have seen adapters etc for alot of machines...think thats the right spelling??

As expensive as machines are, I would get the Bernina foot. If you screw something up in the machine because of the wrong foot it may cost more to fix than to have bought the correct foot in the first place.

I have a 730 Bernina with walking foot. I REALLY enjoy and use it constantly. You can do lots of stitching with it on many items as it makes the fabric flow more evenly under the needle. You will certainly like it and the price is worth the satisfaction you will get from using it.

I don't know how the universal one would work. I bought mine on ebay, got a fairly good deal and it is worth every penny. I love the guides and use them all the time also. Make sure you get one that has the guides. Which ever you get, you will love it!
