Hi!

I want to make something other then Quilts and Tote Bags. Do you have any idea? I guess you call this blocked. ;-)

Well, this is still a bag........but, I made over 100 bags for Christmas presents. Quick. Easy. Beautiful. And you do not HAVE to use Christmas fabric. I got tired of throwing away all that paper. I wonder if you could find a pattern for quick vests. When I was younger I loved to wear a long sleeved white shirt with a vest.

ckcowl 03-15-2013 10:05 AM

place mats, table runners, wall hangings, jackets, vests, skirts, hats, tea cozy's, appliance covers, pot holders, rugs, drapes, roman shades, furniture slip covers, pillows, pillow cases....
do i need to keep going?

inspectorcmm 03-15-2013 10:09 AM

I went on the Husquavarna Viking site and found a free pattern for a scottie dog pillow that I have made 3 of. They are perfect for stash. Also bought a pattern to make kindle covers, ipads etc. Haven't made one yet, but anxious to do one.

There are plenty of potential projects for you to do. Recently I put aside a quilt that was giving me a bit of difficulty to finish. I decided to do a matching jacket, neck warmer, and hat out of the same fleece fabric-black with hand block style butterflies. I finished that project and will return to the quilt in a couple of days-refreshed and ready to tackle the problems I had putting the blocks together correctly.

Have you tried the roll it up method of pillowcases? I find it very easy and makes lovely cases. I want pillowcase to match the seasons and holidays. http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millio...s/RollItUp.pdf

SusanMarie1956 03-16-2013 06:18 AM

Boston,

Did you MAKE UP the pattern? or is there a pattern for that ?

I made a lot of aprons this last year. I also made fancy throw pillows for less then half what they cost at the dept store. You can make the fabric wrapped bowls, quilted bath mats using terry cloth towels, microwave bowl holders. If it's made from fabric then it can be sewn.

bjgallent 03-16-2013 06:37 AM

Mug rugs are another option.

lsmft 03-17-2013 02:43 AM

Patchwork puzzle balls (Jinny Beyer patterns)

I've been making mesh, zippered bags with a strip of fabric across them. They come in so handy for everything from sewing notions to tea bags to make up, etc. They also make great gift because you can customize the fabric band to coordinate with whatever you're putting in them.

I just finished French sewn and smocked Easter dresses. So much fun!

jeaniedrain 03-17-2013 06:44 AM

I make dresses for little girls. Downloadable patterns can be found on etsy for a reasonable price. I have several hanging in a lqs as an alternative to just quilting. Don't get me wrong quilting is my first love, but these dresses are fun and one of a kind.

Those bowls made out of clothesline are fun; eyeglass cases; fabric bowls; headbands; doll quilts.....

Don't forget to check for free patterns on the web. I also find bloggers are very generous with patterns and tutorials.

How about making a removable purse organizer?

Letty 03-17-2013 10:08 AM

Hi Sounds interesting, but no patterns, maybe you could do a tutorial ? x

JoanneS 03-17-2013 10:28 AM

I do the same thing. I make simple bags with drawstring tops. Instead of cards, I print a bunch of pictures of my grandkids and of DH and me. I paperpunch a hole in a corner and put the appropriate DGK picture and ours on each bag. It's actually cheaper than paper, and DDIL finds uses for the bags.

cherrio 03-17-2013 10:47 AM

bibs or wheel chair/walker/bedside totes for the elderly or for your own bedside or chairside .

SandyGail 03-17-2013 11:12 AM

Try a scrappy string pot holder or those "hottie" microwave bowls. My family love using them & they are quick & easy!

Pillows, pillow cases, dish towels, place mats, runners....there are tons of stash busters on pinterest.

JLVerde 03-20-2013 10:40 AM

I make dolls and stuffed toys using quilting cottons. Sometimes a stuffed toy looks so much more cute if you use a really bright cotton print instead of standard "stuffed toy" fabrics like faux fur, fleece, or wool felt.

I make a lot of cat toys, too, by fussy cutting cute images from fabrics. My cat nephew Lowell is so spoiled from all the toys I've made him. (I make cat toys for gifts, too).
