Thanks for all the wonderful ideas, everyone! I love the idea of doing a cathedral quilt, which I hadn't thought of but seems perfect. Denim is a great idea, but I've had my heart set on using flannel. So, I think I'll try cathedral pattern quilt in Maywood Studios flannel with wool batting. Thanks again for all your suggestions!

My second choice would be a blanket from the Army/Navy Surplus... but then you're usually limited to darker fabrics -- at least for the blankets that they sell in the local Army/Navy stores by me.

I am hoping you are still around here on Quilting Board... Do you know what the thickness of this is? TIA
