Best foot for applique

What is the best pressure foot for doing machine appliques? Will my regular zigzag foot do it?

Bree123 05-01-2016 01:30 PM

What machine do you have & what type of stitch are you going to use?

Patricia Drew 05-01-2016 02:04 PM

I have done machine appliqué on my old Singer 401G using the regular foot and a very narrow, very short zig-zag stitch.

I like my open toe foot and do a blanket stitch.

PAMAR 05-01-2016 02:36 PM

I do the same as Deb - open toe foot and blanket stitch.

I usually use the open toe foot for applique, as it gives me a clear view of the applique edge and my needle.

I like to use my open toe foot or a clear foot. Being able to see clearly is the most important thing to me, but both of these feet have a groove underneath for the stitching to ride in.

I use my open toe foot. I normally do a blanket stitch but I'm sure it would work for other stitches too.

QuiltnNan 05-01-2016 05:41 PM

i use my open toe foot and invisible thread

Open toe and small blanket. but mostly prefer hand applique.

I like my open toe foot.

sewingsuz 05-01-2016 06:56 PM

I use the open toe and blanket stitch also.

Open toe, blanket stitch

DOTTYMO 05-01-2016 10:24 PM

Open toed and blanket stitch on some. I've also used my walking foot with big needle hole for zigzag.

Open toe foot and invisible machine applique. It looks like handwork. You can see how it's done here

Thanks for the link Lea, that looks interesting!

I normally satin stitch, but have some that a turned edge and sewn with invisible thread may work better. just have to be careful and not mix up my invisible thread with my water soluble thread.

I use an open toe foot on my Bernina #20.

Dolphyngyrl 05-02-2016 08:14 AM

I use my open toe foot or satinedge foot(by creative feet)

jmoore 05-03-2016 02:48 AM

ditto on the open toe foot... you can see where you're going

I use an open toe applique foot and put the needle all the way to the right when blanket stitching. Fabric then just rides along the edge of the fabric.

MarleneC 05-03-2016 10:33 AM

I do the same. Sometimes use a decorative stitch or zigzag.

Yes, as long as the needle has room
In the foot, any foot will work that can do zig zag, satin stitch or any wide stitch
