Best sewing machine luggage
 

I’ve been deciding between getting a juki or a Bernina for my second machine and went to the Bernina store yesterday and tried out the 480. It was no contest, the semi industrial juki 2010 can just handle thicker fabrics and is tougher so more equipped for the bag making I want to do.

Now that I know I’m getting the juki(tl-18qvp which is same chassis as the 2010) I need to find a bag for taking it to classes. Any suggestions? I’m not even sure where to start looking...

Pamela, I can't help you with a bag but I think you're going to love your new Juki. I have the 2010 and my FMQ is so much better than before! Great machine.

i think that machine is 23 pounds... you'll want a sturdy roller bag. take the machine measurements with the associated equipment [like the bed extension] and make sure the luggage accommodates it. it doesn't have to be sewing machine dedicated. i got a regular luggage roller bag and it works great... it even had a padded divider. and outside pockets for things like the extension cord.

I would suggest checking out Allbrands Sewing. They have a huge selection of parts and accessories and their service is great. Hopefully, they will have exactly what you are looking for.

My daughter gifted me with a set from JoAnn's more than several years ago. Really like it as there is the big piece on wheels plus several smaller pieces of various configurations to hold accessories or projects. I don't know if JA still offers these but perhaps they would be more apt to do so coming into the holiday gifting season. You'd need some measurements to be sure the rolling one will hold your machine but it is so handy when going places with your machine. Why did it take so long for someone to create luggage on wheels?!

I really like the Tutto brand rolling carts for my machines. My Janome 6600 is 24#, I think, so I try not to pack a lot of extras with my machine. Just getting the machine and the cart in and out of the car is heavy enough... I prefer to pack everything else in a project bag, which I set on top and roll into class.

I have a Juki 2010 and I got a bag at Harbor freight that fits the machine and sells for $24. It is for tools and it is sturdy. Several ladies in my sewing group got one too. You have to settle for black. It is a roller bag. If you get a 20% off coupon from HF you will get it cheaper.

Another vote for Tutto bags.

The wheels roll easy and swivel. The zippers and hardware are sturdy. You have the option of either front load or top load. Heavy machines can be hard to manage . I bought the XL size which was one size up than the recommended size. You want to research the opening size on top to make sure machine will drop in.

Another tip, make sure you can lift and load the bag into your vehicle.

I also bought some foam from jo-anns. Cut to bag size and added a layer of padding to the bottom of bag. A thinner piece of foam protects the machine screen. Foam is easily to cut with an electric knife.

I have Tutto bags for my machines and really like them. Did try the bags JoAnn's sells but the wheels fell off after a year.

I vote for Tutto, heavy duty and well m made.

I have my machines in the Joann's bags and they have lasted a long time. I travel for my job and my travel machine has been all over the country in my car, hotels, retreats, etc and the bag is still in good condition. I didn't put in any extra padding but do carry the combo pressing/cutting board inside and my bag of machine feet. I also have two bags that have straps that can fit over the handle and another that I pile on top of the bag so that I can usually make my way in one trip. That is a lot of weight and I am expecting the handle to give out but wheels are still in good shape.

Thanks everyone! I ordered a tutto bag for it. I had to get the xl because the machine is 1/2 inch too deep to fit in through the top opening on the large. I found a good price on amazon. I’m getting excited....
