I need some advice. I recently purchased a Pfaff Creative 4.0. I understand for the machine to work properly I have to buy really good quality thread. I need advise as to what thread you all use and what would be best for my machine.

Thanks for your help.

Your dealer can give you some ideas. I use Mettler (that is what my Pfaff dealer sells) but I am sure there are many others out there. I saw some interesting looking thread at http://www.connectingthreads.com/Quilting.cfm that I wanted to look into.

I really think your thread choice also will depend on application. I wouldn't use rayon or silk for piecing but it is pretty on embroidery, etc. But I'm far from expert at this. I hope you find an answer. I'll be following along looking for answers as well.

Different threads for different applications.
My favorites:
Presencia 3 ply 60 wt cotton for piecing;
Isacord polyester for embroidery;
Superior Threads Bottom Line 60wt poly for embroidery bobbins;
Mettler Metrosene Plus for garments;
Mettler Silk finish mercerized cotton 50wt for general sewing.

Presencia is really nice thread, absolutely no fraying or lint.

I've discovered that my Janome does not like Coats and Clark but she loves Guterman.

Wow thats funny Because I always thought it was just me and my thread preference but my vikings both prefer Coats and clark or sulky and not Guterman I am glad it isnt just me

Never had an issue with Superior thread on any of my machines.

That's funny. I took a class on my machine yesterday and the instructor said that Coats & Clark and Guterman are about the worst threads out there. I agreed with the Guterman. I had a black spool and it was producing so much lint. I threw it away at the end of the class.

I think you just need to experiement with different brands of threads to see which one your machine likes. I have a Pfaff 7570 and that baby will take anything.

I buy a lot of my thread online or at my LQS, no other place near me has decent thread. For my machines (Viking and Bernina) both Gutermann and Star (made by Coats & Clark) give off a LOT of lint and require me to clean my machine often. I haven't had a problem with any other thread so far.

Coats and Clark is not a quality thread - I worked for a Viking and Bernina dealer and he cautioned people that Coats and Clark will "fuzz" and be very hard on your machine. It also breaks easily due to how it is made. Mettler is my favorite but when I can't get it Gutterman gives me no problems either.
