Best websites for beginner long arm tutorials

I am finally getting to practice on my new Baileys. I am so happy. I think I can do this with practice. I need some ideas for practicing. Please share any sites that you might have used to help you when you were starting out.

Thanks!

I watched a lot of videos on youtube and bought few dvds teaching long arm quilting for beginners but i attended couple of classes at a quilt show and found out that practicing on a pc of paper was amazing. Try to doodle a design (same one) for 15 minutes and then go to the machine and do it. It works very well.
enjoy your toy ;-)

I have been studying the youtube videos for the last several weeks and have learned a lot. My machine is not set up yet , the room won't be painted until tomorrow and the carpeting is coming on Tuesday. I look up videos specific to my machine but find most of the other brands of videos helpful as well. I was lucky enough to get a set of 7 videos with it. Good luck and happy quilting.

While watching Youtube videos helps you learn the machine path for continuous line quilting the best practice, aside from actually quilting is drawing the motifs you want to quilt. Go out and buy yourself a whiteboard and whiteboard markers or utilize 50% off coupons for places like JoAnnes, Hobby Lobby or Michaels and go to the drawing dept and buy big pads of inexpensive newsprint style paper. If you have a local newspaper, they sometimes give away the ends of the newsprint rolls. Then draw, draw, draw. Keep them handy next to the TV so when you sit to watch TV you can sketch and doodle. You will get amazingly adept in no time what so ever.

Here is a great link to Carla Barrett's blog when she did feather worksheets. Wonderful rescource. Print out those pages and practice.

Your brain will totally remember and it will come as natural as signing your name. Oh another LAer here on the board recommends writing the alphabet with your longarm in cursive. That is another good trick.

This is my new favorite blog. She posts a different machine quilting motif every Tuesday. You can see the past ones under 'Quilts/tutorials'. She breaks down each motif step by step. Her quilting is done on a DSM, but easily used on a track mounted system as well.

I am hoping she publishes a book, so I can have all her motifs in one place!

PS I also love Love LOVE The Pajama Quilter. She is wonderful for beginners. I still refer back to her DVDs often for ideas. her website says she is sold out, but if you email her, she might have a few more DVDs. She told me they are going to digitize them, but no time frame. A few emails might nudge that DVD along! lol You can view trailers from them on the site. www.pajamaquilter.com

I've found Leah Day's videos to be very helpful. I recently found a book on sale someplace called Doodle Quilting - over 120 continuous-line machine-quilting designs by Cheryl Malkowski.
