I'm making an Argyle quilt for my DGD and I got all the triangles cut out. I sewed the blocks together in strips, put them on the display board, stepped back and thought it looked much better than the last one I did. Then my DH comes down the stairs, looks at it, tells me it looks good and asks if there is a reason why some stripes are going to the left diagonal and some to the right. Yikes! Thought I could switch them around but after looking at it a minute I realized that when I cut the triangles they were cut as mirror images (wrong sides together). DUH! I'm going to take artistic license on this one and not change it. As far as anyone else knows I did it on purpose. It will be my secret - and yours. Guess I learn something new with every quilt - some the hard way

Oooh, post a pic please. Love to see stripes in all their glory and possible mistakes.

Stripes going all different way is what I like! It's "character"...
|
I would love to see a picture too!

stripes are interesting in a quilt

This makes it an individual quilt. If you look back at historical quilts this happens all the time. I purposely do this when piecing to give some character to a quilt.

Sounds like a left brain, right brain thing. You (right brain) see the overall artistry of the pattern. Your DH (left brain) sees the spatial detail. :D
