Beyond excited!!!
 

I've just designed my first ever quilt pattern and I am SO excited! My brain is totally frazzled from trying to write out the pattern and I was wondering if there is a way of working out fabric quantities easily? Like maybe an online calculator or something? :D Or maybe all the experts on this board have some advice :o

The excitement is amazing and I am trying really hard not to start the project of making it up until I have finished my other 8 WIP's! Maybe I should hand the pattern to my daughter with strict instructions to only let me have it back when my WIP's are all done. Hmmmmm......hard one that!:D

Here's some calculators that should help. You still will need to figure out how many shapes (squares, triangles etc.) you will need and what their finished sizes are.

I have written patterns too. It is a great feeling to getit on paper. The best feeling of all is to see what someone else made from your pattern! That is a rush!

Many designers use EQ7, a computer program.

Congrats, it is a good feeling, and completely awesome when you see someone else make it. Kudos!

Robert Kaufman has a quilter's calc for the iphone (and android I think) that is pretty handy for figuring yardage. Not sure what format your current dimension are in, but that may help.

I tend to go to EQ7, put the block and/or quilt there and then print out the individual block amounts and then the whole quilt amounts. This way I have an idea to shoot for when I go to search for the fabrics in my stash or fabric store. Plus I print out a pic of the quilt too and keep everything together.

I had that dilemma a time or two - main reason I bought EQ7. I'm still learning how to use it :)

I don't have EQ7 but 'thank you' PaperPrincess, the Pieces to Yardage Area Calculator on the link that you posted is exactly what I was looking for. I have counted all the squares I need and will be putting them through the calculator this afternoon. P.S. I have planned a trip to my LQS on Saturday...........just to see what they have fabric wise:D:D Who am I kidding?
