Bias Applique
I am appliquing a viney kind of thing with bias. Do I pin the entire motif beforehand or do I pin as I go? Any other hints would be appreciated.

Are you hand sewing the vines or machine sewing?

what ever works for you is fine- if it is easier to let it (drape) and pin as you go - do it that way- if it is easier to lay it all out & pin it all down then stitch===well do it that way- there is no (right) answer- it depends on what makes it easiest for you to accomplish---some people use glue which washes away when it is all done and laundered- some use fusable webbing and iron it down before appliquing- some of us pin- some just hold it in place as they go-

I pin, then adjust the applique as I sew ... I hand sew most applique, only because it is easier. You'll find a way that works for you and your project will be beautiful.

You can do as already suggested ... or fuse or glue it down.
The choice is yours and will depend if you will need to put anything under the 'vine.' ali |
I think you can press the bias tape in the curves you want before pinning it down or whatever you choose, and then it will hold its shape better as you sew.
|
Also best to stitch the inside curves first & then the outside bias edge will lay flat. If you stitch the outside curves first you may have trouble with the inside curves pleating.
