so 6 strips @ 2 1/2" width should be 15". I would go with 7 strips, just in case of error and seam allowances for joining them - (17 1/2", only 1/2 yd.)

wouldn't that be for binding made on the width of grain and not bias? I always have trouble figuring the amount for bias binding, too--so you may be right on this.

Jenny Doan (MSQC) has a tutorial on Utube called Continuous Bias Binding 200 inches from 1/2 yards of fabric that looks interesting

I use this website. Plug in the numbers and there's no thinking involved lol.

I make bias binding all the time and always cut it 2.5 inches wide using piraterogers.com tutorial. Using 28" WOF will make about 440" - 460" inches of binding depending on the width of the fabric. This is the easiest most straight forward method for making bias binding and doesn't waste fabric as you don't start with a square. A yard and a quarter of fabric would make you enough bias binding for one large King sized quilt and a single sized one too!

If you want to check out Shelley Rodgers' tutorial and info, here is the link: http://piraterodgers.com/tutorials/cbt/index.htm
