When you have to use iron-on interfacing on a bias cut in a quilt top, at what point do you remove it?

Not sure I understand, once you iron it on...it's on there forever?!

I'm not sure why you would use iron-on interfacing for a bias cut in a quilt top? I mean, I know the purpose would be to stabilize the bias edge; however, I use a different method for this (heavy starching of the fabric before cutting the bias edge).

I've never put fusible interfacing on any of my bias cut quilts. I starch stiffly, then cut, never had any problems.

I thought iron on was permanent. Don't understand how you are using it i guess.

I agree,.... that's how I do it too.

I just followed the pattern directions. "spray with sizing, apply fusible interfacing and then cut on the bias edge"...It sews together ok, but I know the issue is going to be quilting. I will cut it out the best I can for the quilting. I have never done a bias edge before and wasn't sure.

Perhaps you are doing fusible applique? If so they means to have the image on the bias so there will be less edge fraying.

Need more information on exactly what you are doing.

Give us the name of the pattern or copy of the directions. It needs some interpretation. I've never seen a pattern that calls for this, except for fusable applique and then you only put a thin strip on the bias edge.

I am making a half log cabin triangle (the ones in the corners). It is attaching the bias edge of the log cabin triangle unit to the square on point. You take your square and add strips to only two sides of it, thus forming a triangle. When you go to trim the long (bias) edge straight, it states:
Turn block face down. With a ruler draw a reference line 16 1/2" from each corner in both directions for fusible interfacing placement. Align ruler with reference marks and draw a diagonal line. Iron a fusible interfacing strip on the reference line. Then, cut on line.

I was going to just scan this section, but it is copywrighted. If any of the gals who have the pattern want to see, it is on pg 18. There is also another area that calls for interfacing after using sizing.

It is Tonga-Nature. It is not applique. I use wonder under for applique and this just calls for fusible...one side only. I will include a picture as well as the link.
