Bias strips
I have a lot of bias strips left over from binding and various projects. Can I use these strips in a string quilt using paper piecing? I can't see myself using these strips for anything else.

yes. Paper or foundation piecing will help prevent things from stretching out of shape.
|
Definitely you can use them.. stitch to a foundation , paper, fabric or even the super thin interfacing( the really cheap stuff they sell buy the bolt at Jo'anns). Just be a bit more careful pressing if you go the cheap interfacing route ... its poly. That cheap stuff really is not stiff.

You could also starch or Best Press them and just sew and make your own pattern.
If you have ample $ resources you could use a wash away stabilizer. Then there would be no extra weight in your finished quilt. |
I don't worry about straight of grain when PP or foundation piecing. You can also use leftover bias binding for the ties on baby bibs and pot holder and mug rug bindings.

I am also an organ recipient but from a cow! I am recovering from heart/cow valve surgery and have always said "Leave my Body to science". Oh, I forgot I also have someones' bone holding my neck together - pieces of me just keep falling apart - 'nuff said.
On to your question, I have found the Medicare book sent by Medicare, to be great for paper backing. Fold one corner down to meet the papers' edge and you have a perfect 8" backing square. ( of course take off the 3" bottom piece) Quilter68 who is greatful to be 72! |

I use them in string piecing with no problem, I use phone book pages . They would also be great to use in rug making , crochet or weaving .

misty's mum! these stripes if same as mine are usually 21/2" wide. You could use them as jelly roll stripes. Beautiful quilt for Misty first.
