Big star/small star
 

I am making a quilt of valor and I would like to make the stars with Jenny Doans method as in big star tutorial. The stars are 8 1/2 unfinished. If I can do it, what size squares should I use. Any help is appreciated.

She has a tutorial on youtube. She uses 5" charms.

If you have to cut your squares to begin, I find 4 1/4" will give four 2 1/2" hst's with a little trimming, which is what you will need for an 8 1/2" block, unfinished.
