Big Stitch Quilting

I have some beautifull quilting fabric that has a Paris theme and is not suitable for cutting, I was thinking of doing a whole cloth quilt using Perle cotton and doing big stitch quilting in a chevron style. The fabric is black and white, I plan to do a red border and binding, the hand quilting will be done using red Perle cotton, I am a little worried that the red cotton might run!

Has anyone ever done big stitch quilting with Perle cotton?

That's what I use most frequently. Also crochet thread 10 wt., or Sulky cotton thread 30 wt.

I use a larger between needle in a #3-9 mixed size pack from Richard Hemming and a wool batting for ease of needling.

Thanks for the info Jan. I have a charity quilt for a kid and thinking of trying out some big stitch quilting.

It is supposed to be colour fast but test some of the thread. Take a wad of it and put it in a glass of hot water to see if the water turns colour. Fish it out of the hot water and put it on white paper towel to dry and check for colour transfer.
