Machine sew front, hand sew back. I think it looks so much better than machine stitching the back. Just my opinion.

Never unless like for quilts for kids you have to machine sew the bindingwhich I hate to do.

All mine or all the other quilts / wall hangings and runners are allhand sewn

Same for me - machine it to the front and hand stitch to the back. Just looks better.

Yes, Hopetoquilt- I make my quilts the same way. Stitch the back, then bring it around to the front and hand stitch the front. I think it gives the quilt the professionalism your looking for, and besides that- it just lays down so much better.
I like to watch tv while Im putting on the finishing touches to any quilt.

I do the same thing other than after sewing to the back I press the binding forward all around and then bring it to the front. It seems to stay in place better. I love the way it looks and feel like it will take any washing, drying, handling forever! I was afraid to tell my sewing club that I did this but was surprised several do the same thing.

I prefer to machine sew the top and the back it is a lot faster for me. We do mostly charity quilts and do some for benefits.

I sew bindings all by machine. I sew it to the back first and then turn it over to the front and top stitch it down; using either a straight stitch or a fancy stitch.
Most of the quilts I make are for a children's charity and they need to be sturdy.
Hand stitching is painful after about 15 minutes, so I do as little as possible.

Agree and enjoy sooo much just looking at it!

I use both methods. If I'm in a hurry I make a piping and sew the binding by machine and when I have plenty of time I hand sew to the back of the quilt.

I prefer hand sewing on the back, but understand why some prefer machine.

I do both. It depends on the item. On quilts used by adults, I hand sew with slip stitch. They don't get as much abuse as some of the other things I make. If I am making a child's blanket, and if the child is young, I machine stitch because the blanket will probably get dragged through the mud and used for tug-of-wars and I don't know what all of other kinds of mayhem. For my Bags and other types of useful items, It depends again. How will it be used, defines how it is attached. How is that for an ambivalent answer.
