binding buddy
Am I seeing this right? she is cutting the fabric on the fold with the binding buddy now it looks to me that when you open the bias strip there will be a V at the fold........but it could be me seeing things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEAaYxOmmgc

I watched it without sound but, WOW!!!, you are absolutely correct! This demo must have been done by people who don't quilt. Are you going to leave a comment? You definitely should! (Or I will.)
Actually, the way she is using the end of the ruler, it looks like the entire ruler was designed incorrectly for cutting bias strips. What's wrong with June Tailor??? Unless maybe they expect the quilter to cut each strip at the fold and piece the strips together again -- which is completely unnecessary if you cut the bias strips correctly to begin with....... |
Yes, she is cutting it wrong. I can't see why you would need a special ruler to cut binding strips anyway.

I don't think the fabric is folded. She says it's the "edge of your fabric", not the fold of your fabric. She just cut it down really small (maybe she's making a pieced binding strip for that 12x12" square featured earlier in the video??? lol). I agree, though. If you have a lined cutting mat, all you need to do is lay the unfolded strip straight across your mat & then put your ruler on the 45 degree line & slice. But there are all kinds of tools and gadgets out there that I would never buy. If someone else gets some benefit from them, good on them.

I'd better not watch the video - just spent an hour trying to figure out how to join the ends of the binding on my quilt (even had Fons & Porter instructions sitting next to me). Seems like I can never get it right, so sometimes I just tuck one end into the other. If only there were a way I could really understand and remember from one quilt to the next.

It would be wrong if the ruler edge was on a fold but in the demo it is just a single layer. This demo could be misleading to less experienced quilters.

Her fabric is not folded.:)

I'm with Tartan, Why would you need a special ruler to cut strips?
