Binding corners?
When coming to the corners of your miter and then turning the quilt to go down the other side, do you go back and sew into the mitered and go to the point of the miter or do you just go around the quilt and not sew the miters down? Thanks

I hand sew my binding to the back with one strand of strong matching thread. At the corner, I sew the miter closed on both sides, bring my thread back to the back and knot my thread before continuing to sew the binding. The knot in the thread hold the miter closed and prevents the thread from pulling the corner out of shape as I proceed.

If you are putting the quilt into a show, I believe they require them to be sewn.

I’m assuming you’re talking about actually attaching the binding to the quilt? I do both, don’t have a preference. Sometimes I’ll stop 1/4” from the edge, lock the stitches and trim the threads, then turn the quilt and start again. Other times I’ll sew into the mitered point. I’ve not found that one is better than the other. Since I always hand-stitch the binding to the back of the quilt, I do sew a few stitches into the mitered corners on the front and back then.

My understanding is that if entering a quilt into a show, then the corners need to be sewn. For all other quilts, I don't bother.

I do the same as Tartan when hand binding...I have not done a knot but will try to remember that tip on my next one.

I sew my binding on by machine on both sides, keeping all the stitches on the binding itself, and yes, I sew into the corners of the binding. I just don't want it to come undone. FYI...I only do quilts for myself and family. No show quilts for me.

I don’t sew my miters closed. I’ve never entered any quilt in a big show though.

Thanks.... I sewed the binding on the machine both sides I think I"ll go back and sew the miter closed, better safe then sorry..Thanks again

I sew my bindings with machine both sides at the corners I back stitch a couple of stitches each way. Corners will never pop out.
