Binding Ends with Hand Breadth--tute?
Very recently someone here posted a link to a very helpful tutorial on joining binding ends. The "trick" was using the width of your hand to measure overlap. I have searched and can't find it. Might have been posted and disappeared when the site started showing blank text?
Can someone repost if you know which one I'm referring to? |
I saw it but the I did not see "the hand" as you called it. I saw where she used another piece of fabric the same width as the binding and laid it there to show us that we are to only use the width of the fabric as the difference between the two ends of the binding. After cutting the ends, take the two ends, open them and sew them on the bias. Then check to see if it is right before cutting off the triangle pieces. Then sew as usual to attach the rest of the binding. I think there is a You Tube tutorial you could watch. It might be from Missouri Star.

I don't know about the post, but that method definitely won't work. The overlap depends on the width of the binding, not on the width of your hand. This guy explains it very clearly, albeit very slowly.

I found it on Youtube. It wasn't a hand breadth, you're right. It's the width of the binding less 1/8". One or more of the comments on the post that was here, was that the person uses her hand width. I think I was combining facts in a fuzzy memory.
Here's the tutorial : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joJkKsIcQew |

check out the F & P YouTube on attaching the ends of the binding--it's a surefire way to do it without any bump. I've shortcut their method some by not marking the stitch line, but pressing it in so easy to join.

I use the width of the binding to overlap.

Yes, he's a slow teacher, but I actually think he explains very well what he's doing, with close camera work.

I use the width of the binding as overlap less 1/8".

when ending off I add the measure of the binding if it is 2" or 2 1/2" or whatever size you use it works for me
