Binding foot
 

I was watching an episode of The Great British Sewing Bee and noticed that some were using a binding foot, an odd looking foot that wraps the binding under (I'm assuming) and makes it even on the front and back. I know that some of you are able to machine sew your bindings on, but I have struggles with it so usually just hand sew. Has anyone ever used a binding foot or would the thickness of a quilt prevent it from working properly?
On a side note, it was 50's week and this was used on an older Singer, so maybe they don't make the foot for a newer machine.

I took a class once that showcased the binding foot, and it worked great. But we were making little handbags, and the binding foot was used to sew the bound edge of the bag along with the shoulder strap. The straps were "finished" at the bottom of the bag with a hand-tied knot. I thought the binding foot was neat until I realized that I had no idea how, instead of tying off the binding, you would sew around a corner, like you would on a quilt. I have yet to figure out how you would do that with a binding foot. Hopefully someone will come along and illustrate!

I have a binding foot on my Bernina and have never used it. Maybe I need to give it a whirl !!

No answer to the question ... though Bernina do have a lot of videos showing their feet in action.
Perhaps there is one demonstrating the Binding Foot?

I've never used mine either. I tried to use one on my old New Home machine to bind some place mats and it was hard to use and didn't work all that well.

I have no idea how you would do corners with a binding foot or if it would work with doubled bindings.

The binding foot is for garment or light craft use, it's not for quilts.
