Any hand piecers out there? I am just finishing a wallhanging that I have totally pieced and quilted by hand.
Can I apply the binding by hand also? How do I do the corners? I like the corners mitered when I sew binding on by machine but can I do it that way by hand? I have found hand stitching to be very relaxing. I want to do more of it now!! thanks for advice. You are all so helpful. Chris |
Chris, check out the tutorials on Youtube or maybe here for mitered corners. You can adapt them to hand stitching also.
Glad you enjoy hand work. So do I !! |
Couldn't you just hand sew them like you machine sew them. I envy you your hand quilting. I just can't get the hang of it.

I don't see why you can't just sew them on exactly as if you were doing it by machine. I do think you would want to make your stitches very strong, perhaps double thread, since there will be some tension on that part of the quilt while you're turning the binding to hand-sew the other side. I also believe a lot of vintage quilts have binding that is just the backing turned to the front.

I agree with making sure the binding is sewn very securely, but there isn't any reason why you can't do it by hand. It is how it has been done for centuries

This video shows you how to sew on the binding using the machine as well as hand sewing.
