Binding Help

I normally machine stitch my binding on the front, then wrap it to the back and hand stitch it. Why does it look so much better on the back, with my hand sewing? I'm thinking I need to machine stitch it to the back, then bring up to the front.

What do you do?

For quilts that I'm going to hand stitch the binding on, I sew on the back first and pull to the front.

Other quilts, I sew to the front and pull to the back. I then stitch in the ditch on the front with clear thread to barely catch the edge on the back.

Describe how it looks on the front and why it looks better on the back.

I stitch to the back with a 3/8 inch seam then turn to the front and hand stitch down. I do not press when I turn it and my bindings always turn out very nice.

Here are a couple of pictures. Front & then back. I think I'll unstitch it and do it the other way around.

I don't think I would...that looks fine!

Clearly, I'm no expert, but I think it looks fine!

I think the front looks absolutely fine! Are you talking about the corners? I wonder because you posted pics of the corners. You can tack those down too - I use a ladder stitch and tack that mitered fold down.

I sew mine to the front, trim the backing and batting then hand stitch it to the back.

Looks good to me . I machine sew on the front and fold it over to the back just like yours and had sew it down and it looks like mine
