I'm doing a complete machine binding on a small wall hanging. I've already sewn the binding on the back and am about to machine sew the front. Should I do a straight stitch or can I use a decorative stitch to do this?
Thanks!! |
I use decorative stitches and sometimes varigated thread.

I like to use decorative stitches.

It all depends on the way you want it to look. I have done both.
|
Whichever you prefer.
|
Decorative stitches can add a new look with the right thread. Give it a try!

Either would look great. It depends on your personal choice and what finished look you are seeking.

Your wallhanging, your choice. I like decorative and varigated thread, too.

If it's regular flip to the front binding, you can do whatever you like! Try a sample to see what stitch looks best and remember to pick a stitch that will pivot nicely in the corners. I really like the "Quick machine binding with flange" that Charismah posted on tutorials and it uses a straight stich in the flange ditch. Maybe something to try for your next quilt?

I use decorative

i like the look of a simple decorative stitch

OK. Here's what I do.
I iron the binding over to the front and will use a glue stick to secure it. The I don't need to pin it in place or worry about puckers. When I sew on the front I choose a decorative stitch as I prefer the look to a straight stitch. ali |
I like the look of the decorative stitch over the straight stitch, softens the look and adds to the quilt.

I like to machine sew binding on front, then roll to back and use a blanket stitch on the front.....may I ask why you sewed on back to bring to front...I am not criticizing or challanging you....just asking, perhaps your way is better than mine.

Use decorative.

I use a machine blanket stitch all the time! I think more and more of us are doing machine stitching on binding.
