When attaching binding, you stop and back stitch 1/4" from the corner, fold the binding up and then back down and start stitching the next side-But here is my question do you start the new side at the very top or 1/4" down from the corner? I've seen it both ways.

Any help?

I start 1/4 inch from the top. It works best for me.

It shouldn't make any difference as long as you make sure the second seam is exactly 1/4 inch.

I don't think it makes a difference either but it is easier for me to start at the top!

I start 1/4" from the first side and second side.

I always start at the edge, I will have to try starting a 1/4" in next time :D:D:D

On mini quilts I often start at the top. On all others I start 1/4 inch down. I learned both of those from quilt teachers and they work for me.

So I guess the consensus is that you stop 1/4" before the end of the corners, but you can start at the fold or 1/4" down from the fold. I've done both and didn't see much of a difference, but wasn't sure if one way was better for some reason I couldn't figure out

Thanks everyone

Found if I don't start the second side right at the top it will leave a little hole. So, right at the top for me. Hint: your fold should be just a tiny smidge down from the raw edge. Worked wonderfully for me!

I stop slightly less than 1/4" or the width of the seam allowance. Perhaps a couple stitches and then back stitch a couple stitches. This allows the little bit of space for the fold just like the scant 1/4" in other seam allowances. When I start the second side I put need just into the folds. This holds the folds together and prevents bunching up that the pressure foot often does when starting at multiple layers.

It is easier for me to start at the very top.

I stop 1/4 inch from the corner, needle down and turn quilt to stitch diagonially to the corner; after folding I start at the top from the edge.
