Using a double fold binding, do you start on the front or back? I have usually started on the front folding towards the back but I have run across patterns that say the opposite. Is this a personal preferance of the author? How do you do it?

I think it is a personal preference. The one I just finished, I started from the back, but I also do the other way just as often. I do it all by machine and use a zip zag stitch so when it's done, you can't tell which side I sewed first.

I start in the front.

If it is to be sewn on by hand I sew to the front and flip to the back. If I am finishing the entire binding by machine, table runners, baby quilts and other things that will get a lot of wear and washing start at back and finish on front with decorative stitch or invisible thread in small zigzag.

I machine stitch on the front and hand sew to the back. Just learned how to do the mitered corners but still need a little more practice on making them neater. Until then, I'll go from front to back.

I used to machine stitch to the front and hand sew it to the back. Too many projects, though, and too little time. I have begun now machine stitching it to the back first, then using a serpentine stitch on the front. I love this method!

I like to apply mine to the front and then fold to the back. My front binding looks nicer this way. I really don't think there is any hard and fast rule. And if so....who cares!
