I am trying to put a binding on a quilt square 8 1/2 inch, and am not sure about the length of the binding strip. It's the part where you usually add about 10 inches extra in length. With such a small square, I'm not sure how much extra to add. Would 4-5 inches be enough? Seems like it's really hard to join the ends together because there never seems to be enough to do it easily.
Thanks for your help. The perimeter I get, just not how much extra to allow. |
Yes. 4 or 5 inches should be enough for you to join the ends. Are you doing a single fold binding? I would suggest it for a small quilt. A regular double fold will be too bulky. JMHO

are you mitering the corners? add about an extra 1" for each corner- plus an extra inch or two (fudge room) when you get around to joining the ends the excess will be trimmed away- better a little extra than being short.
