If I am doing a fold over binding on a wall hanging, how would I attach a hanging sleeve?

I attach it to the back before I sew the binding onto the front, so it is sewn onto the quilt and supports it. Then when I hand stitch the back of the binding - I stitch the binding to the sleeve. (Does this make any sense to you?? lol). If it is a large wall hanging I also do a small one at the bottom to helps the quilt hang straight and not curl or wave at the bottom - then I use a very thin strip of wood that the DH strips on the table saw for the bottom.

before folding the back to the front, you could sew your sleeve fabric by machine to the backing as close to the quilting area that you can. then you would probably have to sew the bottom of the sleeve to the backing by hand. hope that is clear enough.

I always attach the sleeve after the binding is done.

Yep, I have to hand sew the top and bottom, but I find it lays much better, and the top doesn't fold over.

Regardless of which of these you choose, make sure you have a little excess fabric in the sleeve to take into account the space the rod or dowel will take up.
It will hang much straighter and flatter this way.

In the first method upthread (sleeve and binding together), don't make the excess more than 1/4" because it might show over the binding when hung.

If it's a really small wallhanging, you can probably get away with the triangles in the corner method.

You can do this after the binding is attached to the front - before it's sewn down on the back.

Thank you for your replies. Not ready for the sleeve yet, but will consider your suggestions when I get to that point. I thought I would have more done on it today, but the weather is way to nice to stay inside and sew.
