When piecing your binding strips do you press the seams open or to the side?

If I am cutting it close on the length of my binding, i.e. barely making it around the quilt, I use a straight seam and press the seam open.

But for the most part, I piece my binding using a 45 degree seam at the joins and press those seams to one side since the seams do not match up when the binding is folded over.

As you can see, it's a matter of personal preference.

What makes quilting fun (or challenging, depending on your point of view) is that there is usually more than one way to do something.

That was weird. Wonder why that went through twice like that.

By now, many of you have ascertained that I am strange. Since you KNOW that, I will give you my opinion on this.

On quilt binding I always press the seam to one side. That is because I think it gives more stability to the part of the quilt that is actually handled the most.

I think of it in terms of not pulling stitches out of skin by spreading the skin. As someone prior to me stated, the seam is not folded against itself anyway, but is folded in half at an angle.

Strength, that is why I make the choice I do.
