Question, is there more than one way to close up a quilt other than Binding? I have a table runner that I bought from a country treasure store in my area and it's just sewn around the edges. There is no binding with mitered corners just straight stitch all around. And if this is a way to close the table runner up does anyone have a tutorial I could watch to see how it's done or just type instructions. Any help would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

I have seen that but it looks unfinished to me. I have also seen if serged, but that looks lazy to me.

Was it stitched with the wrong sides together with an opening and then turned through the opening? It can be done, but doesn't work well on anything very large. After pressing, you can topstitch 3/8 of an inch from the edge. I did do a quick doll quilt like that last year.

it is called a knife edge binding and found in older/antique quilts. Top and back is turned under to the center and a small running stitch along the edge.

I made a table runner that has a square in each corner. If I do a regualr binding then it would cover part of the square. I've seen quilts where there was a square in the four corners but not sure how the bind the quilt up and still kept the squares fully visable. Thanks for your input. I'll keep that in mind. I've attached a picture so you can see what I'm talking about.

just found a quilt with the squares at the four corners and the normal binding and it actually looked really nice so I think I'll do the same.

just do skinny binding. 1 1/4 inch. it's tight to turn over but do able and will look great.

The binding should only cover about 1/4" of the squares, which would be in the seam allowance of them anyway. Any method will cover or take up some of that if you don't want the raw edges showing.

I didn't put binding on several of the table runners I did during the holiday season, just put batting in the middle, sewed RST, left an opening, turned, and sewed a decorative stitch all around the outside. Also quilted the runners using a decorative stitch.
