I have always made my binding but need to use prepackaged this time. I can't figure out how to use this tape on the corners. I can't seem to use the knowledge I have for my own binding on the prepackaged stuff. I'm just not that familiar with it. I know there is a single fold, double fold, etc. Do I have the wrong fold (single). I would appreciate any help, advice, etc.

I guess it is a matter of preference, but I use the double fold and it goes around corners rather nicely. I sew it to the front of the quilt edge and then fold it toward the back and hand stitch it down.

Isn't that a bit narrow, or is it a different product than I'm thinking of?

I gave up trying to use the packaged, i like mine too much. Can't remember how to turn the corner but i remember not liking how it turned out.

I may give up before trying. My friend gave it to me to us on her baby quilt but I think I may just make my own. I would have already had it done instead of trying to use what she gave me. This is the first time I've been on this site (found it by accident) and think I may have found a place to ask questions.
I can tell you up front, I will have a lot more questions than I will ever have answers. Thanks to everyone for your support.

You sure have come to the right place okie. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience on this board and everyone is very willing to answer questions and give advice. I have learned so many things just by reading the boards. Glad you found us.

All I know is when I see that pre-packaged stuff coming through the door I start running in the opposite direction. lol !!

Welcome to the board Okie, lots of great mines out here, lots of info.

You turn corners with the pre-folded stuff exactly like you do with the bias tape that you make yourself. It is bias tape........it stretches and molds the way you want it to go.......straight or curved.

Unfold it........leave a few inches loose and lay it on the front side of your quilt and stitch along the first fold crease...........when you get to a corner.......just turn it in the direction you want it to go.....still stitching in that first fold crease. When you have gone all the way around finish it together just like you would your self-made bias tape. When that is done, refold it, turn it to the back and stitch it down.......usually with out having to use pins.

Glad you replied to the question, that was very helpful and exactly what I was thinking. Also, do you find that sometimes we make our hobby/passion more difficult by thinking we HAVE to make our own. (of course, there is a finite number of colors which the company can make so I usually make my own bias as well) Thanks.

You're very welcome, I am glad it helped. You're right, there are only a finite number of colors which are available so I think, depending on the project and effect that we are trying to achieve, it would require one to make their own bias fold tape. It's not that we try to make our hobby or passion more difficult.........I personally think that it is the artist in us that encourages us to "make our own" :wink: It is definitely something that I intend to learn to do.

Sorry for your troubles and sorry to say I would not have chosen what you described. I use quilt binding when purchasing. It has a double fold.

Making and adding the binding to a quilt is one of my favorite things to do. It gives me a feeling of completion. I can see how it works very well for a curved corner. Does it work as well for mitered corners?

If nothing else...its kinda fun to watch, but she does have some good steps on this too.

That had really good tips, but again she didsn't show to miter the corners. I just prefer miter corners for binding rather that straight. I'm not sure what the term is for a straight corner unless that is it. The borders I like straight but not the binding. Depending on the quilt I have mitered the borders as well. I did this on my very first quit, it was a foldy pattern. I do know what started my issue with pre packaged was I had the wrong fold. Thanks for the clip.
