Bird wall hanging

Hi, my friends call me Tea.
I love all the beautiful quilts and all you’re creativity!
I am finally coming back to life after my son’s death 3 years ago.
I love to make quilts even though I am not great at it.
I would love to make a quilt wall hanging consisting of my son’s favorite birds. One bird particularly is a blue jay.
I would love to attempt to make blue jay appliqués although this is waaay above my skill set.
Any recommendations on a picture of the bird so I can trace it and make my own template?
I have looked everywhere and have not been able to find a picture. I even looked in children’s coloring books to see if I could get an outline.
Couldn't find one.
I would be most grateful!!
Thank you!
Tea

Welcome, Tea. Have you googled free clip art for bluejays?

Try Zebrapatterns.com and look under Applique patterns. She has some lovely bird designs that are machine appliqued. Welcome back and I am sorry to learn about you son. This quilt is a wonderful way to keep him close to your heart.

I was thinking clip art also. I've used clip art to make appliques in the past. Works great.

This is the best one I found as it has the color guide. Don;t worry about it being from the glass company--they make several items and I have a number of them in my quilt files. Once you print it out make a few changes to make the image unique to your style.

I missed your earlier post, but caught it from the most recent posting of a reply. The link below may be what you're looking for. It's beautiful, comes in two sizes and is affordable ($13 as I recall). I love working on panels and quilting them in various degrees. See what they have, and please share with us when you've completed it.

I lost my daughter a couple years ago and I share your heartache. Yes, we do eventually pull it together, but it will always be a ready remembrance. Rejoice for the time you had with him. And know that I care.

Tea, if you are a bit ill at ease with your skills to make the birds, it is OK to look about, try some different techniques and patterns before you dive in. In the end you may be more pleased with you effort to honor our son with a bird quilt.

I would recommend that you take a peek at Pat Sloan's Face book page https://www.facebook.com/groups/QuiltWithPatSloan/ She has a simple bird pattern that other quilters used and recreated to reflect other than blue birds. Scroll through the photos to find robins, blue jays, Baltimore orioles, gold finch and on and on. Just an idea.
