You mention sewing on Minkie. Minkie is kind of like knit fabric and I wonder if a ball point needle for knit would help. You also can try putting tissue paper under the Minkie next to the feed dogs and tear it away after. I know I have to do that for sewing Velcro sometimes. Is it bird nesting on regular cotton fabric?
