I have been asked to do some work on these colours. I thought grey on black or creams on white would work, but apparantly not.

Anyone, any ideas bearing in mind that I have to do this quickly and would probably have to go onto the internet to buy the fabric as LQS are far and few between in my far flung outpost.

There are sooo many black and white prints out there just take a look. You'll find something to spark your creativity.

I can't recall seeing black on black that didn't look like charcoal grey on black. Good luck on your hunt. IF you can, please post pictures of your fabric. All I can think of is matte black on shiny black or shiny black on top of matte black.

Cotton loft.com usually has lots of blk/wht & wht/blk. Some of my favorite non-colors.

Thanks for the info. I can do black on white or white on black. But I have been asked for black on black or white on white.

Black on Black fabric is not really black on black , in order to to able to see the pattern in a black on black one of the "black" colors has to be a different shade or less dense , so the print pattern ends up looking dark gray.

I hope you aren't going to hand sew through these fabrics. i have a hard time finding white on white that doesn't have the top print sort of rubbery. very hard to hand sew through. machine sewing is all right though.
good luck.

Would one of the marbled modas work, I wonder? There are some black looking batiks but in some lights they end up looking dark brown or green. Good luck with your search! I've never done any fabric painting/dying/inking but maybe you could experiment with a black fabric & black ink?

There's a crackle black here, but on my screen it looks charcoal grey.

and Moda has a crackle black as well.

If it doesn't have to be 100% cotton, there's a linen look one, if you enlarge the picture, it's embossed.

I'm using a fabric from JoAnn's that's a black with dark charcoal swirls. I think you could call it black on black.
