Anyone have one? I saw one in the department store today. They are nice and heavy. I thought they might iron seams flatter.

Here is a picture. I see it is getting mixed reviews at the bottom of the page.

I would love to be able to have a heavy iron back again. Just love them. Don't like these lightweight ones that you forget that are in your hands.

I have a black and decker iron, but not like the one you're looking at. It has lasted nearly forever. The best part, it was on sale for $8.00. How can they make any money on a price like that?

I had a great one at one time. Was my grandmothers. Took it all over the world with me.
Once I got married, we moved and it "disappeared" during the move. About cried over it. My iron I had in HI, decided to die, so hubby was nice enough to go and buy me a new one. Got a great deal on a $7 one, but it's still not as good at the heavy one. :(

I finally got the iron of my dreams. My kids always get me Joanne's gift cards for Christmas and B-days so I took those and a 50% off coupon and got a Rowenta Power Duo. It's nice and heavy and IT DOESN"T TURN OFF EVERY 15 MINUTES!!!! That drove me crazy! Even worse than usual. The Black and Decker looks good too.

I bought the Black and Decker at Walmart for $25.00 (the department store where I first saw it wanted $45.00, Amazon.com $30.00 plus shipping). It seems to do what I wanted it to do. It doesn't glide well, but in quilting your not supposed to glide across the fabric anyway. I don't think I would want to iron my clothes with it, although I had one just like it many years ago.

I think the auto-off function in irons quits working after awhile, in that the irons first don't heat up and then won't turn on. I have had several.

Thats just like the one my mom has used for years!! I wonder if the new "old fashioned" one will last as long as hers has?

So far so good on my Rowenta, I've only had it for a month. I sure hope it keep on going after all my waiting for it. Good luck on your B. and D.

Oh my gosh, we had one of those when I was growing up. I actually really prefer the older, heavier irons. I think they are starting to make them a little heftier these days. Our new one is the Shark, and it works pretty well. I would LOVE to have one of those again, though.
