blade sharpeners
I am going to get a blade sharpener and want to order on 9/1/14 cause of all the sales and some with no shipping. The blue plastic one is out. I have one but lost 2 pieces to it. It did work well though. For those of you who do use a sharpener on old rotary blades please tell me which is best. Most of you I know don't use them as I have seen many posts on here. I got through a lot of blades using templates for my quilts. They cost a fortune. The electric one looks good and only bad thing I heard on here is it is really loud. I can live with that if it words. Now there is one you leave the blade in your cutter and run down a sharpening track. Any advice??

I have the electric one . Mine is not that noisy I notice. It works well and I always have a supply of sharp blades. Occasionally if I forget go take a new one to a workshop have to buy one. I don't notice any difference in quality of the cut or length of time it lasts.

i have one, too, but it's so loud i rarely use it. i love the speed and convenience of an electric sharpener. if there's a quieter model on the market i'd be tickled pink. :) |
I have that one too but haven't used it in a long while. I've just gone to Harbour Freight & bought new ones. Cost lots & lots less than the name brand ones...

I use TruCut's $65 electric sharpener. It works great. I sharpen blades at the first sign they are getting dull. It greatly extends the life of the blades. I also love, love love their 24" ruler and companion rotary cutter. I tend to wobble the blade or have the ruler slip when cutting WOF. No problems with these. I have also attached their grippers to the bottom of the rulers. http://www.graceframe.com/site/rotarycutting/truesharp. I would recommend buying from their site to be certain you are getting their sharpener and not some knock off.

Nancy's Notions, I trust their site, has that same Sharpener for $49.99 and it would be free shipping today. Thank you for the reviews all of you and I am ordering it today.

Interesting-on the tru cut website it says it sharpens any brand of all the sizes listed but on the Nancy's Notions site it said it does not work on fiskars brand 60mm blades. I have a 60mm cutter but have only used the original blade so far, but after just a couple of small projects it's already got skipped areas. I'm debating whether to buy this sharpener or more blades. I'm leaning toward the sharpener. Is this the best brand?

I am going with it because of the above reviews and posts. no experience at all

What reviews? the ones at Nancy's Notions are mixed-half love it and the other half said it didn't work and returned it. Are there reviews somewhere else?

I never found anything I was impressed with. I even had a friend of a friend who worked at sharpening things professional and I wasn't happy with those blades either.
