Hi,
I was wondering if blanket stitches appear different on different machines. I know a lot of you own various brands of machines. Is there a brand of machine that has a blanket stitch that is better than blanket stitches on other machines? I have never really been happy with the stitch quality on the one that I use and wondered if all stitches are the same. This is important to me because I mostly do applique quilts. I would appreciate your opinions. Thanks, Janet |
I have two different old sewing machines and both have the blanket stitch and both are different. Not much, but different.

I have found that the blanket stitches on my Bernina are nicer than the ones on my Pfaff.

I have found that the blanket stitch on my Janome 2007DCLE is much nicer than the one on my 6600P. I don't know why, but it is.

The only machine I've had with blanket stitch is my Horizon..and it has more than one. I like them but can't compare them to other machines

I like the blanket stitch on my Viking #555...you can adjust the width (bite) that the stitch takes into the applique...
I agree, the stitch is a bit different on all the different machines. |
Can only speak for my Bernina 150 (Quilters Edition) and Viking Sapphire 850. Both have very dependable blanket stitches that can be adjusted for width and length and include versions that are double stitched and quite decorative. What you need to look for is a machine that produces consistent results. I have had older mechanical machines that did not feed evenly.

I was not able to narrow the width on my stitches [button broken] on my old, trusty Kenmore machine. And, because I can't thread a needle very well anymore, I bought a new Brother 6000i at Walmart. It is amazing how much better the stitches on that machine are. And I just love the needle threader on it.

I never thought about "differences" in blanket stitches. Both of my Pfaffs have blanket stitches with adjustable length and width, and both are equally nice.

10 machines, NO blanket stitch...sigh
|
my viking has a few different blanket stitches- they all have their place and are nice for their purpose... seems like my older brother's blanket stitch is a good stitch- shaped a little different than the vikings but nothing that would make it not usable for an applique.

Would using a different thread weight (maybe heavier) make the stitch look better? Are your needle and thread weight or type of thread compatible? Can make or break the stitch quality. Try a few variations and see.
|
Thanks for all of your input. I will try using a different weight of thread.
